UNESCO Chair Co-hosted an International Seminar “Career Development in International Development”
unesco3On July 16, 2026, an International Seminar on Global Governance for Human Security titled “Career Development in International Development” was held. The seminar was co-organized by Kobe University’s UNESCO Chair, the Global Research Center for Education Policy and Planning (GEPP) at the Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies, Kobe University, the Global Network Program, and the CAMPUS Asia Plus Program, and was conducted in a hybrid format.
The seminar welcomed Dr. Najung Kim, Research Professor at Korea University, who shared practical insights into building a career in international development under the subtitle "From Possibilities to Realities."
The first half introduced the structure, objectives, and areas of work of major international organizations, including the OECD, UNESCO, and the World Bank Group. The second half covered the technical and core competencies assessed in recruitment, entry points into the field such as internships and the JPO program, how to prepare a CV and cover letter, and interview preparation using the STAR method.
A total of 47 students, faculty, and staff members participated in the seminar, with 35 attending in person and 12 joining online. The Q&A session included practical questions on how to communicate with local staff while interning remotely, and on whether a cover letter should emphasize practical experience or research background. Dr. Kim offered concrete advice drawn from her own experience, generating lively discussion. The seminar offered participants a valuable opportunity to learn about career development in international development and to think concretely about preparing application materials and interviews.
